Back from Lancelin

After few month in knee to chest high waves, I scored some nice ones this week end at Lancelin.

3 to 5 knots offshore wind, no more than 3 surfers at the line up and overhead waves, it was good !

Rosie and me stayed at the Lancelin lodge ; on Sunday we paddled around the reef from backbeach to Eddies, got some waves each and back to the beach ;
On monday I launched from the windsurfing area and went straight over the reef, scored some awesome waves with only 1 surfer at the line up, meanwhile Rosie took a paddle to Lancelin Island, we catched up later so I had a go on her ski, and she had a go on my SUP !
Other activities included walk in the sand dunes, diner at the pub, and romantic walk along the beach…!

SUPfrance is taking off !

SUPfrance is a blog I created in May when I realized how hard it is hard to find information about Stand Up Paddle in French.

And day after day, it attracts more and more visitors, it looks like I gonna have to upgrade it soon to a “real”website !

to take a look at it : www.SUPfrance.com

SUP in Perth

After 10 days in Perth I already scored nice SUP sessions in small but fun waves.

Last year in June, I was one of the only SUP rider in Perth area, now, driving along the coast line I always end up spoting other SUP surfers, lot of them still beginners, but all of them having fun and respecting the basic rules (share the waves, wear a leash and don’t go to the crowded surfspots/ find your own waves)

Thanks to windshack (www.windshack.com) and Surftech (www.surftech.com) I’m having the oportunity to ride the Laird10′ which is now my favorite board.

SUP : going through the breaking waves

Since I SUP, the 3 main questions I got asked are

“where do you get the board”: that’s a secret
“where do you store the board” : that’s another secret
“how do you go through the breaking waves” : here we go !

The keys to go through the breaking waves is lot of speed and lot of self confidence, just think : “I gonna make it” , and even if you don’t, it was fun to try !
So just go as fast as possible, straight to the wave, and just before to reach it put your feet in the “surfing stance”, take a powerfull stroke with the paddle deep in the water, a deep breath and push the board (and yourself) over the foam using your paddle to keep the balance ; even if you don’t make it, at least you won’t get dragged as much as if you jump off the board

Here’s a video of a failed attempt :

And here’s the picture of the “jump off and hold your breath” technique for bigger waves :
