Top 10 at Battle of the Paddle California 2014 !
The Battle of the Paddle California Elite Race is by far the most competitive race on earth.
Not only all the best riders in the world are taking part in the race, but also you have to deal with waves, solid waves.
Getting to the final is already a huge achievement. The 65 finalists this year are the 65 best SUP Racers in the world, without a doubt.
And getting top 10, (meaning getting one of those yellow jerseys for the following year) is a career highlight for any SUP racer.
I’ve been there in 2011. But since then nothing. In 2012 I’ve messed up my race and was unhappy with my result. In 2013 I had a great race and I finished in top20.
And this year I’ve had a very good race. Slow start but I luckily managed to make a super fast transition during the 1st run on the beach and I could get out and reach the lead group just before a big set of waves cleaned up everyone who was behind.
I’ve put a lot of training into this event, going out on my 12’6 in solid surf during practices in Fuerteventura. So I’m very happy it paid off.
7 of the 2013 top 10 Elite Race riders have remained in top 10 this year and 3 riders, me being one of them in 8th position, got into this very closed circle.
2014 has been a very good season for me so far. I am a lot happier than in 2013 when I didn’t reach many of my goals.
Races are more and more competitive and reaching podiums is harder every season with more riders and all the new generation coming up. However with my Bronze Medal at the ISA SUP World Championships, my first place at the Lost Mills Race and this top10 at Battle of the Paddle Elite Race plus many wins and podiums in other races I am very satisfied.
Now getting ready for the National French Championship in a couple of weeks and the last race of the season will be in Paris in December.
