Interview TvCanaria
Starting at 40mn12sec
The wind is blowing… Everyday… strong onshore wind… Not fun for SUP Surfing… I can’t remember the wind blowing so many days in a row at this time of the year since I’m in Fuerteventura…
I do my workouts and paddle my SUP Raceboard as usual, but I miss a nice, glassy SUP surfing session… It’s time for the wind to STOP !
Here’s a short clip of yesterday’s session, occasionally a wave was showing up with a good shape.
Big thanks to Jean Luc Malfroid for letting me have a go on his Oc1 for this session on lake Geneva !!
Just back from the Golden Island Race in South East France, the main race was a 4 stars EuroSUPA Long Distance Race and there was aslo 4km amateur races, slalom races (6 men heats BOP style race on very short course) and there was a Nautical mille record to attempt.
I’ve started saturday morning with the Nautical Mille, I wanted to enjoy the glassy weather and I knew that afterwards I wouldn’t have any time left to do it because of the long distance and slalom races…
I’ve paddled hard but I could probably have done a little better, I just didn’t want to burn myself for the weekend, I did 10mn36sec ; no one could do better on a SUP board.
Saturday afternoon we had slalom races, I’ve won all my heats and won the final, Greg Closier and Rico Leroy took 2nd and 3rd
Sunday morning we had the long distance race, I was on my 18′ Nidecker custom, it was very glassy, I took a slow start but soon took off, the board works very good, I’ve finish in 2h16 with 4mn advantage on the 2nd
In the Afternoon other Slaloms and once again I’ve managed to win all my heats and the final, Greg Closier couldn’t do the race as he had to go home early, finally Gaetan Sene took 2nd and Rico Leroy 3rd.

It is summer again in the Canaries ! Well, not exactly summer, that was couple of month ago and now winter and winter swells are on the way… But this week the conditions are really similar to summer conditions… No ground swell and strong trade winds… Not the best for SUP in the waves, but it is sunny, the water is warm, so there’s no excuse for staying home !
We took a 14′ custom out to try Larry Allison’s SUP race Fin on it, it felt very good on that 14′, the board maintains better its line and is more balanced, every stroke seems to be more efficient, Anita and I were both very stocked about the fin.
End of September, just before leaving for the Battle of the Paddle I spent a day in Geneva, clear blue sky, glassy water and warm sun, it was ideal to take the Nidecker SUP 12′6 All Water Race out for a spin, Frank. D. from “Get Up SUP Mag” was there with his video cameras …
Over the last week we had excellent conditions for downwinds, yesterday the wind was lighter, not enough to enjoy a proper downwind so I took the Nidecker 12′6 All water Race for a ride in front of Anita’s camera, the colors in the channel between Corralejo y Lobos are just fantastics !
